Safety Business Gateway

how it works

Safety Business Gateway

This page is an institutional point of contact dedicated to communications related to product safety and recall procedures, intended for customers, distributors, business partners and competent authorities.

EFAPEL is committed to identifying, assessing and responding to any situation that may compromise the safety of its users, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety.

Regulatory Framework

EFAPEL fully complies with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR), which sets out the obligations of companies in the European Union regarding the prevention, identification and reporting of risks associated with products placed on the market.

This regulation defines a Product Accident as any occurrence related to the normal or reasonably foreseeable use of a product that results, or may result, in death, injury or any other adverse effect on people's health and safety, arising from a risk associated with the product.

The Safety Business Gateway is the official channel through which companies report these situations to the competent authorities, ensuring a fast, transparent and uniform response across the European Union.

Product Safety Management System

EFAPEL has an internal product safety management system that allows any risk situation to be identified and addressed in a structured and timely manner.

How we identify a risk situation: Through customer complaints, test reports from external entities, internal product audits, distributor communications, authority alerts and monitoring of online platforms.

How we assess: Once an occurrence has been logged, our technical team carries out a risk assessment, taking into account factors such as the potential severity to people's health and safety and the likelihood of recurrence. This assessment determines the actions to be taken and their respective urgency.

This process allows us to act in a proportionate and responsible manner in each situation, always prioritising consumer safety.

Recall Procedures and Corrective Actions

Whenever a technical assessment identifies a risk associated with a product, EFAPEL adopts the measures necessary and proportionate to the situation, which may include:

  • Updating instructions for use

  • Design or raw material changes

  • Strengthening quality control

  • Suspending marketing/sale of the product

  • Withdrawal of the product from the market (withdrawal)

  • Collection of the product from consumers (recall)

All corrective actions are documented and monitored through to completion, ensuring that the cause of the occurrence is effectively eliminated and that similar situations are prevented in the future.

Notification to Competent Authorities

Whenever a technical assessment identifies that a product poses a serious risk to consumers' health and safety, EFAPEL reports the situation to the competent authorities through the Safety Business Gateway, without undue delay, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988.

This communication includes all relevant information about the product, the nature of the risk and the measures already taken or planned, allowing the authorities to monitor and validate the company's response.

Transparency with the competent authorities is a core pillar of our commitment to consumer safety.

Cooperation with Business Partners

EFAPEL maintains close and transparent communication with distributors and business partners whenever a product safety situation warrants it.

Whenever necessary, we provide clear information about the nature of the situation, the measures adopted and the actions to be taken by those who sell our products, ensuring consistency between internal and external communication and the official notification to the authorities.

This cooperation is essential to ensure a fast and effective response throughout the distribution chain.
