Residual Current Circuit Breaker

As a complement to the Modus 55 family of switching and protection devices, EFAPEL presents new Class B residual current devices, essential for installations involving advanced electronic equipment. These devices detect alternating current leaks even at high frequency, pulsating and continuous, ensuring total safety for your installation.


Sensitivity of 10 and 30mA (high sensitivity) to protect people and animals against direct or indirect contact.
30mA residual current devices meet the protection requirements for socket circuits and installations exposed to water.

Sensitivity of 300 and 500mA (medium sensitivity) ensures protection of installations against insulation faults or indirect contact.

Class AC: This is general-purpose protection, ensuring protection in the presence of alternating current leaks – purely sinusoidal. EFAPEL's residual current devices guard against unwanted tripping caused by transient leakage currents, such as lightning strikes or capacitive loads.

Class A: Complements Class AC protection, adding protection against leakage currents with a continuous component that is not detectable by Class AC devices. Recommended for installations with electronic equipment such as diode rectifiers, TRIACs, etc.


The new Class B residual current devices complement Class A protection with detection of continuous current leaks of up to 6mA and leaks with an alternating component at frequencies of up to 1KHz. These devices are recommended for installations containing equipment capable of producing these disturbances, e.g. installations with photovoltaic generation, electric vehicle charging, speed drives, etc.

To prioritise continuity of service while maintaining high levels of protection, the use of residual current devices of different classes in the same installation should meet the following criterion: the device with the more advanced technology (Class A or B) must not be installed downstream of a technologically inferior one (Class AC).

E.g.: a Class A device cannot be installed downstream of a Class AC device; likewise, a Class B device cannot be installed downstream of a Class A device.


Control, Automation and Signalling Accessories

The expansion of the range of control, automation and signalling accessories, with trip coils, auxiliary contacts, automatic resets and contactors, enables professional installers to develop and carry out installations with a high level of reliability and safety.

Trip coils make it possible to control the opening of the device they are mechanically associated with (e.g. a miniature circuit breaker or residual current device) via a remote command or due to certain installation conditions.

Examples include opening the main switch via a shunt-release trip coil at the press of an emergency stop button, or opening a specific circuit in the event of a power supply failure, by installing an undervoltage trip coil.

It is possible for a given switching device (e.g. a miniature circuit breaker or residual current device) to be reset automatically or via a remote command, following an isolated, unwanted trip, by installing one of the remote and automatic reset models.
